Al-Wasl-New-Road-Expansion-Plans-in-Dubai-South-Corridor

Urban Makeover of Dubai

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled a major upgrade for Al Wasl Road as part of a 15-kilometre corridor improvement stretching from Umm Suqeim Street to 2nd December Street. The project includes expanding Al Wasl Road from two to three lanes in each direction, upgrading six key intersections, and building five tunnels totaling 3,850 meters. These changes are expected to double road capacity to 12,000 vehicles per hour and cut travel times by half. Enhancements also feature new bridges, elevated ramps, and the expansion of lanes to ease traffic flow, particularly around Sheikh Zayed Road, First Al Khail Road, and Al Quoz Industrial Area. Complementing these infrastructure developments, Wasl has announced a new master community at Jumeirah Golf Estates (read more on wasl.ae), designed to offer premium residential living surrounded by greenery and world-class amenities.

In addition to easing congestion, the Al Wasl Road redevelopment plan incorporates modern urban design elements such as pedestrian walkways, cycling tracks, landscaped boulevards, and public spaces to create a more attractive and community-friendly environment. The work will reshape key intersections like Al Thanya, Al Manara, Umm Al Sheif, Umm Amara, Al Orouba, and Al Safa Streets. These upgrades reflect Dubai’s wider vision of creating a smarter, more sustainable, and people-focused city that enhances daily life for residents and visitors.
